# BGP Labs: Use Your Preferred Device for External Routers « ipSpace.net blog

## Summary

The online BGP Labs project now supports a much wider range of external router devices, including Aruba CX, Cisco IOS, Cisco IOS XE, Cisco IOS XR, Dell OS10, Junos, and VyOS — in addition to the previously supported Arista EOS and FRRouting. This was made possible by rewriting most lab topologies that previously relied on custom configuration templates to instead use netlab's Generic Routing features, which support routing policies, AS-path filters, and BGP community lists across roughly 20 device types. The change means users can now run nearly all BGP labs in a single-vendor environment (e.g., Cisco IOS-only or Junos-only), reducing friction from dealing with unfamiliar devices.

## Questions this post answers

### What devices can I use as external routers in the online BGP Labs project?

External routers in the online BGP Labs project now support Aruba CX, Cisco IOS, Cisco IOS XE, Cisco IOS XR, Dell OS10, Junos, and VyOS, in addition to the previously available Arista EOS and FRRouting. This was enabled by rewriting lab topologies to use netlab's Generic Routing features, which cover routing policies, AS-path filters, and BGP community lists across roughly 20 device types.
