State attorneys general found that Block misled users by falsely advertising bank-like protections, including advanced fraud detection. Cash App allowed account creation without Social Security numbers or birth dates and placed no limits on the number of accounts one person could open, enabling scammers to exploit the platform. The lack of an official customer support phone number also drove users toward fake support lines run by scammers. As part of the settlement, Block will improve fraud prevention measures and provide live customer support.
