Despite facing multiple setbacks, such as helium leaks and reaction control thruster issues, this mission was deemed a significant achievement by NASA officials. They emphasized the valuable data obtained, which will be instrumental for the future of the Starliner program. Originally launched on June 5, the spacecraft spent 93 days in orbit. It was initially intended to carry NASA astronauts Barry Wilmore and Sunita Williams on their return trip. However, due to uncertainties in thruster performance and other technical challenges, NASA decided to bring the spacecraft back empty. As it undocked from the International Space Station (ISS) on September 6, Wilmore and Williams monitored the process from aboard the ISS.
