# Building an open-source telemetry platform from scratch

## Summary

Telemetry Tracker is a new open-source telemetry platform built in TypeScript and released under the MIT License. It supports collecting errors, events, sessions, and product analytics, with official SDKs for React, Next.js, Vue, Nuxt, React Native, Node.js, and NestJS. It can be self-hosted or used as a cloud service. The creator shares the journey of building it as a side project that grew into a real product, noting that non-coding work like documentation, deployment, and marketing took significant time. Planned features include performance monitoring, alerts, source maps, and session replay.

A few months ago, I started building what eventually became **Telemetry Tracker**.

At first, it wasn’t supposed to become a “real” product. I mostly wanted a place where I could experiment with SDKs, telemetry, and dashboard design. The more I worked on it, the more I realized I was using it for my own projects almost every day.

So I kept going.

Today, Telemetry Tracker can collect errors, events, sessions, and product analytics. It has official SDKs for React, Next.js, Vue, Nuxt, React Native, Node.js and NestJS, and it can be self-hosted or used in the cloud.

Everything is written in TypeScript and released under the MIT License.

One thing I didn’t expect was how much time I’d spend on things that aren’t “coding”—documentation, deployment, authentication, pricing, website design, GitHub, social media… Building the software turned out to be only part of the journey.

There’s still a long roadmap ahead. Performance monitoring, alerts, source maps and session replay are some of the features I’m most excited about.

For now, I’m happy to finally share it with the community instead of waiting until it feels “perfect.” I think real feedback is much more valuable than polishing features in isolation.
