CachyOS, an Arch-based Linux distribution, declined to join the Open Gaming Collective (OGC) — an initiative led by Bazzite, Nobara, ChimeraOS, and others to improve Linux gaming. The team argued that informal collaborations with several OGC members were already in place, making a formal partnership unnecessary. Despite sitting out, CachyOS has risen to become the most popular Linux distro on ProtonDB/Steam. Key reasons for its success include a custom performance-optimized kernel with EEVDF and BORE schedulers, a GUI installer, and a rolling-release Arch base that outperforms Windows in several gaming benchmarks. Its desktop PC focus also gives it a larger addressable market than handheld-focused Bazzite.
