Canonical has promoted its Steam snap for ARM64 to stable, bundling FEX-Emu to emulate the x86-only Steam client on ARM hardware. The release adds library forwarding (thunking) as an opt-in feature, which forwards OpenGL and Vulkan calls to native ARM64 libraries to reduce emulation overhead. Tested on NVIDIA DGX Spark, Qualcomm Snapdragon laptops, and Radxa Orion hardware, the snap follows a structured release cycle through edge, candidate, and stable channels. Longer term, Canonical plans to rebuild the snap around Valve's native ARM64 Steam client and drop the FEX layer, but is waiting for Proton 11 to exit beta first.
