# Capcom will use generative AI internally but won't put AI-generated assets in its games

## Summary

Capcom announced it is exploring generative AI tools internally across graphics, sound, and programming departments to boost productivity, but has committed to keeping AI-generated assets out of its shipped games. A technical director previously prototyped tools using Google's Gemini Pro, Gemini Flash, and Imagen models for environment concept generation. The announcement comes amid scrutiny following an Nvidia DLSS 5 demo featuring Resident Evil Requiem that appeared to show AI-altered character models. The broader industry context includes Pearl Abyss, Ubisoft, and 11 Bit Studios facing criticism over undisclosed or unintentional AI asset use in final releases, making players increasingly skeptical of any AI-related studio news.

## Content

Capcom has announced it's exploring generative AI to speed up development, while committing to keep AI-generated assets out of its finished games.

The company is testing gen-AI tools across graphics, sound, and programming departments, framing it as a productivity measure rather than a content pipeline. A Capcom technical director previously built a prototype using Google's Gemini Pro, Gemini Flash, and Imagen models to generate and evaluate in-game environment concepts — the kind of internal tooling that never ships directly to players.

The announcement is notable partly because of the timing. Resident Evil Requiem recently appeared in an Nvidia DLSS 5 tech demo that drew criticism over what looked like AI-altered character models, putting Capcom in an awkward spot. The public commitment to keep AI out of final assets reads, at least in part, as a response to that scrutiny.

It also lands against a messy backdrop for the industry. Pearl Abyss confirmed that AI-generated art made it into Crimson Desert's final release unintentionally. Ubisoft and 11 Bit Studios have faced similar criticism over undisclosed AI asset use. The pattern is consistent enough that players have started treating any AI-adjacent news from a studio as a red flag by default.

Capcom's position — use AI internally, don't ship it — is a reasonable line to draw, though "unintentional" inclusions at other studios suggest that line is harder to hold in practice than it sounds in a press statement.
