Key changes include a stronger focus on routing and switching fundamentals, the addition of troubleshooting as a core skill (previously reserved for CCNP level), and a shift to more practical lab-based exam questions (simlets) rather than purely multiple-choice. The exam will have five domains, with 90% covering real-world networking tasks and 10% on AI in network operations. The standalone automation domain from v1.1 has been removed, as automation skills now live in the separate CCNA Automation certification. Cisco also announced that CCIE exams will incorporate generative AI tools for one hour of the 8-hour practical exam starting at Cisco Live 2027. Free preview training modules for CCNA 2.0 are available now on Cisco U, with the full course coming later in 2025.
