He succeeds Bruce Tidor, who served as interim CEO since January 2025. SMART, established in 2007, is MIT's only research center outside the US and operates six interdisciplinary research groups covering areas such as antimicrobial resistance, AI and emerging technologies, and agricultural innovation.
