Albedo's Clarity-1 satellite successfully validated Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) operations and proved their custom Precision bus platform, achieving 98% of requirements for 10cm resolution imaging. The mission demonstrated sustainable operations at 275km altitude with better-than-expected drag coefficients and atomic oxygen resistance. Despite losing two of four Control Moment Gyroscopes due to bearing temperature issues and eventually losing contact after nine months, the satellite validated critical technologies including 3-CMG control algorithms, thermal management, autonomous operations, and the complete imaging pipeline. The team captured visible and thermal infrared imagery, proved their end-to-end ground systems, and gathered sufficient data to design their next-generation VLEO satellites with known fixes for the CMG thermal constraints.
