Write a summary in Word and it can reference the same email thread you were just working through in Outlook. It's not magic, but it does eliminate a lot of the tedious back-and-forth of writing and debugging formulas manually. You review everything before it sends — Claude doesn't act autonomously here. ## The bigger shift: connecting Claude to apps you already use The Microsoft 365 integrations are the most visible example of a broader pattern. When Claude has access to the tools you actually work in, it stops feeling like a chatbot you have to context-switch to and starts feeling like something that lives in your workflow. Some people have been exploring this further through MCP-powered connectors — linking Claude to Google Calendar, Gmail, Google Drive, Spotify, and custom note-taking systems. The results are mundane in the best way: Claude catches a calendar double-booking you missed, finds a Google Drive file buried under a typo in the filename, cross-references your task list with your calendar to suggest focus blocks, or surfaces an email thread you'd forgotten about. None of these are things Claude couldn't do before in theory. The difference is that connecting it directly to your data removes the step where you have to manually copy context into a chat window. That friction, it turns out, was most of the reason these tools felt limited. The honest caveat: setup still requires some effort, especially for anything beyond the official integrations. MCP connectors and custom configurations like persistent CLAUDE.md files take time to get right.
