Claude Opus 4.8 (fast mode) is now rolling out in preview for GitHub Copilot. This variant delivers significantly faster output token speeds while maintaining the same intelligence as standard Claude Opus 4.8, making it suited for interactive coding and agentic workflows. It is available to Copilot Pro+, Max, Business, and Enterprise users across VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains, Xcode, Eclipse, Copilot CLI, and mobile apps. Billing is at provider list pricing under Usage Based Billing, at a reduced cost compared to previous fast modes but higher than standard Claude Opus 4.8. Enterprise and Business admins must explicitly enable the policy in Copilot settings, as it is off by default.
