Anthropic is saving its own algorithm for technical documentation it hasn't shipped yet, but the published schemes it can build on all work the same way. A language model picks each next word from a table of probability scores, and the watermark nudges those picks with a secret key so the wording itself becomes statistically recognizable later, with no hidden characters involved. Only **models launched on or after August 2, 2026** are guaranteed to mark their text at launch, which today covers none of the models you can actually use. Anthropic says a detected mark means content **may have been processed by Claude**, not that Claude wrote it, since proofreading or translating your own article counts as processing. Claude Code, meanwhile, flips to auto mode by default on August 14, backed by a study where reviewers caught a planted dangerous command 13.6 percent of the time and the automatic check caught 89 percent. Meta had its biggest week in a while. It shipped Muse Spark 1.2 with **Muse Code**, a terminal coding agent in beta, then released the actual model files (the weights) of Muse Glimmer, a 30-billion-parameter model under **Apache 2.0** that runs on one consumer GPU or a Mac. That same week, Amazon, Cursor, Microsoft, OpenAI, and Vercel published Agent Plugins, one folder format so the same skills and MCP servers load into ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and VS Code without per-client repackaging. The weekly model table gained two rows, with Qwen 3.8-Max scored at 58 and Muse Spark 1.2 entering at 57 for $0.40 a task, and ChatGPT's free tier moves to GPT-5.6 Luna with unlimited text chats. The frontend platform had a real week of its own. The **State of CSS 2026** results went up, and the average respondent says AI writes just 28 percent of the CSS they ship, one of several numbers in the issue that show what everyone else actually uses. W3C also published a refreshed **ARIA in HTML** Recommendation, the rulebook HTML validators and accessibility linters enforce. Chrome shipped 41 security fixes in one update, six of them Critical.
