# Cloud gaming is kinda amazing

**[David Heinemeier Hansson](https://daily.dev/sources/dhh)** · 3 min read · 108 upvotes · 49 comments

## Summary

Cloud gaming has matured significantly, following the same trajectory as music and video streaming. NVIDIA's GeForce NOW service now delivers impressive performance, especially with the new native Linux client. For local networks, combining Apollo server software with Moonlight client enables streaming from a high-end gaming PC to any device in the house with zero perceivable lag, allowing ultra-settings gameplay on lightweight laptops while keeping them cool and power-efficient.

> Streaming as a fun addition? Yes.
> Streaming to replace ownership in the sense of "you will own nothing and you will be happy"? BIG FAT NO!

> I do not have any thing productive to say. I like that game streaming is nice and improved, but I also do not want to completely move away from actually playing it and owning(I am using that term loosely as I know most if not all games are paying for the license to play the game not really ownership) it on your own hardware. I like you can stream your own stuff with moonlight apollo or steam link, but playing it locally is nicer.

> Nope, don't start to normalise not owning anything. Clearly thats the push that is happening

> Nope. No it's not. It's not. Do not support this. We don't support cloud gaming. These companies are going to raise hardware prices and stop making consumer grade gaming hardware until eventually this is our only option. I refuse to use it and I'll tell everyone I know.

> Try to play an online shooter with it. You will change tune very quickly
