Google DeepMind's Co-Scientist AI tool is helping researchers at MIT and Boston Children's Hospital bridge disciplinary gaps in ALS research. Mechanical engineer Ritu Raman used Co-Scientist to rapidly navigate complex ALS literature, generate testable hypotheses, and rank research directions. When the best leads pointed to cell-surface molecular interactions outside her expertise, Co-Scientist facilitated a collaboration with her husband Ryan Flynn, a chemical biologist specializing in RNA. Together, they are now pursuing novel RNA-based mechanisms and potential RNA-based drug therapies for ALS.
