Private sector actors are working towards providing new opportunities for science, commerce, and tourism in outer space, as the International Space Station approaches its drawdown. Blue Origin and its program partners are making progress in the Orbital Reef initiative, which aims to develop a commercially viable platform in low Earth orbit. The challenge for Orbital Reef is to reimagine successful earthbound technologies for space and operate on a reduced budget. Various companies are collaborating to develop different components of the Orbital Reef complex.
