# Compose Multiplatform and the Native App Future

## Summary

Compose Multiplatform (CMP) and Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) are positioned as a game-changing approach to mobile development that eliminates the traditional risk of choosing cross-platform over native. The key insight is that on Android, Kotlin and Compose are already the native stack, so there is no cross-platform tradeoff. On iOS, CMP allows inline blending of SwiftUI/UIKit views within Compose screens — not overlays — sharing the same KMP architecture and data layer. The '80/20 UI' concept argues that users spend most of their time on a few core screens, so teams can build the full app in Compose, then selectively apply native iOS UI to high-traffic screens. This flexibility fundamentally removes the risk cliff associated with cross-platform decisions: if shared UI proves insufficient, native UI can be added incrementally without a rewrite. The author argues this positions CMP not just as another cross-platform option, but as a potential new default for mobile development.
