A ransomware attack on Conduent, a major US government contractor handling benefits processing for state agencies and corporations, has now affected at least 25 million people. The breach, which originated in January 2025, compromised names, dates of birth, addresses, Social Security numbers, health insurance information, and medical data. Oregon (10.5M) and Texas (15.4M) account for the majority of victims. Conduent has been criticized for opacity — its incident notice page is hidden from search engines via a 'noindex' tag, and the company has refused to disclose how many notifications it has sent. The breach is considered one of the largest ever, though it still trails the Change Healthcare hack that affected over 190 million people.
