That's not a marginal upgrade. ## What the context window actually changes For most day-to-day prompts, a million tokens is overkill. But for the work that's historically been painful - legacy codebase refactoring, full-stack debugging across large systems, enterprise documentation analysis - it removes a real constraint. You can feed an entire software architecture into a single inference call without trimming context or relying on lossy memory summaries. The model sees everything at once. The 128K output limit matters too. This isn't about generating longer chat responses. Test against your actual workload before committing. ## Pricing and access Developers can access Opus 5 through the official API or through select service providers at up to 40% lower cost. That gap matters if you're running high-volume inference. Startups and independent builders who couldn't justify frontier model costs before may find the math works now. ## A note on prompting There's an interesting pattern emerging from teams who've been using Opus 5 heavily. The instinct to write exhaustive prompts covering every edge case - which made sense with earlier models - can actually backfire with more capable ones. Over-constraining the model prevents it from applying judgment to situations you didn't anticipate.
