Convening Across Fields to Shape Neural Interface Technology: CCC Visioning in Action

The Computing Community Consortium (CCC) hosted a two-day workshop in April 2025 bringing together neuroscientists, bioethicists, regulatory agents, computing researchers, and even individuals with implanted BCI devices to define the role of computing in brain-computer interface (BCI) design. Organizers from Yale, UNC Chapel Hill, and Rice University describe the challenges of curating a diverse yet focused invite list, keeping interdisciplinary discussions anchored to computing, and managing a dynamic agenda with CCC staff support. The workshop findings are being compiled into a field-consensus report due Summer 2026, intended to guide future research directions and funding priorities for computing applications in BCIs.
