GitHub Copilot SDK has reached general availability, enabling developers to embed Copilot's agentic engine directly into their own applications, services, and tools. The SDK provides programmatic access to the same agent runtime powering GitHub Copilot, including planning, tool invocation, file edits, streaming, and multi-turn sessions. It is now available in six languages: Node.js/TypeScript, Python, Go, .NET, Rust (new at GA), and Java (new at GA). Key capabilities include custom tool registration, MCP server integration, fine-grained system prompt customization, OpenTelemetry tracing, flexible authentication (GitHub OAuth, GitHub Apps, BYOK for OpenAI/Anthropic/others), cloud/remote sessions, and a hook system for intercepting agent behavior. New since public preview: Rust SDK, improved multi-client workflow support, slash commands, a stable API surface, and better diagnostics. Available to all GitHub Copilot subscribers and non-subscribers via BYOK.
