# CorridorKey 2.0

## Summary

CorridorKey 2.0 is a neural green and blue screen keying plugin from Corridor Digital, launching November 21 at $99. It runs locally inside Resolve, Nuke, After Effects, Premiere and Blender, plus a standalone app, with one purchase covering every host. The tool predicts the color of semi-transparent foreground elements and uses 'time awareness' to analyze whole clips instead of single frames, reducing flicker and preserving fine hair detail. It requires a Windows PC with an NVIDIA RTX GPU or an M-series Mac on macOS 14+; AMD GPUs and Linux are not yet supported. Corridor used it on over 400 VFX shots for their film Son of a Dungeon, premiering November 7.

## Questions this post answers

### What hardware do I need to run CorridorKey 2.0 for green screen keying?

A Windows PC with an NVIDIA RTX GPU (RTX 30 series or newer recommended, RTX 20 series in beta) or an M-series Mac on macOS 14 or newer. GPU memory needs are 4GB for shots up to 1440p and 6GB for 4K. Intel Macs aren't supported, and AMD GPUs and Linux support are planned but not yet available.

_Evaluating keying tools for your VFX pipeline is easier with hardware specifics tracked on daily.dev._

### What is time awareness in CorridorKey's keying algorithm?

Time awareness is a processing mode that analyzes an entire video clip instead of a single frame to separate foreground from background. It reduces flicker and chattering mattes caused by compression and noise, and helps preserve fine details like hair, producing a more stable alpha matte across a shot than frame-by-frame keying.

_Developers building or evaluating video processing tools can follow techniques like this on daily.dev._

### How much does CorridorKey 2.0 cost and what does the license include?

CorridorKey 2.0 costs $99 for an individual license (one person, up to 2 machines on one activation) launching November 21, with a 14-day money-back guarantee and lifetime updates on the 2.x line. A studio tier costs $85 per seat for teams of 5 to 24 seats, with central billing and reassignable seats.

## Community take

How the wider developer community reacted, aggregated from 1 discussion and 65 comments across hackernews (as of 2026-10-27).

**TL;DR:** Reaction is largely enthusiastic about the quality jump over version one and the generous local/free licensing for individuals, but a sharp licensing debate over whether the project is truly 'open source' and an unrelated flame war about whether green screen itself is obsolete dominate much of the thread.

**Sentiment:** 40% positive · 35% mixed · 25% skeptical

**The case for**

- Many found the results a big step up from the first version and genuinely useful even for non-professional work.
- Several praised the pricing/licensing model as generous, since the core tool and weights are free for individuals and only the packaged plugins cost money.
- Some said even a partial (80-90%) automated key saves significant rotoscoping time for lower-budget productions.

**The pushback**

- Multiple commenters objected to Corridor calling the license 'open source' when it's actually a restrictive source-available CC-BY-NC-SA variant with extra terms.
- Some felt the demoed keying quality still has obvious flaws that aren't ready for big-budget, effects-driven production.
- One long sub-thread argued green screen/keying workflows are becoming obsolete compared to CG, game engines, or generative video.

**By community**

- hackernews (mixed): Praise for the tool's quality and pricing model sits alongside a heated licensing-terminology dispute and an unrelated derail about whether green screen has a future.

**Hottest debate:** Whether the project can legitimately be called 'open source' given its added non-commercial and redistribution restrictions.

**Open questions**

- How close is this to being usable in real-time workflows (e.g., live webcam or OBS compositing)?
- Will a future version eliminate the need for an actual green/blue screen background entirely?

> You would think so considering the creator constantly calls it that, but it is source-available. This has been repeatedly brought up [0], the charitable interpretation is that the creator is confused about what open source is and isn't. It uses a license not meant for software, with additional restrictions, which is also in violation of the license used for the work this project is based on [1]. The license has also changed multiple times before a CLA was introduced, seemingly without the permission of the other copyright holders. > No- but actors are unnecessary puppets- nowadays I don't need actors which is great for me as a director- as an animator you act out all the shots/scenes yourself anyway- and nowadays you can just do the mocap/change your voice etc- human actors are not needed anymore and thats a good thing. The status quo will slowly replace the human actors with ai one's. Actors have been given this ridiculous unwarranted status in modern times- they are nothing but puppets so who cares what actors think? They are just puppets that play make believe that they don't even make up themselves = redundant.

> A beta price of $50 or full price of $100 is really a steal. If you do ANY sort of video production work, this is an amazing tool. The more casual of a green screen person you are, the more impressive this is. This is like Magnet Mask for Final Cut, but probably better. I haven't compared/contrasted the two yet, but I have faith that Corridor has knocked this one out of the park from the demos I have seen. (Yes, you can download it for free. You're paying for the pre-packaged convenience. I 100% paid them to support the work they are doing).
