Australia's CSIRO has developed two portable quantum light sources that generate entangled photon pairs to provide spoof-proof timing as an alternative to GNSS signals. Built in collaboration with Australia's Defence Science and Technology Group and inspired by Heriot-Watt University's lab designs, the devices work by transmitting one entangled photon to an orbiting satellite while keeping its partner at a ground station. Any interception or tampering changes the quantum state and is instantly detectable, making the system resistant to both jamming and spoofing. While developed for military use, the technology also has civilian applications in power grids, financial services, transport, and communications networks.
