# Cursor joins The X Subscription, with one plan across X, Grok, Bot and Cursor

**[Collections](https://daily.dev/sources/collections)** · 3 min read · 8 upvotes · 2 comments

## Summary

Cursor has merged into The X Subscription, creating a single plan covering X, Grok, Bot, and Cursor. Paid tiers share one usage pool across Cursor, Grok Build, and other Grok products, with coding usage on Grok models doubled compared to equivalent Cursor plans. Premium, Super, and Ultra tiers also include Grok Bot. Existing Cursor subscribers can keep their current plan or switch. As a tradeoff, third-party models in Cursor move to API pricing on the new plans, reportedly to make room for increased Grok usage.

## Content

SpaceX's AI arm (SpaceXSI, formerly X) has launched The X Subscription, a single plan covering X Premium, Grok, Grok Bot and Cursor. It is rolling out gradually and is opt-in. Existing plans stay as they are if you do nothing, though one report says SpaceXAI has signaled an eventual migration.

## Tiers

- **Plus:** $8/month, the base tier
- **Premium:** $30/month, 4x usage
- **Super:** $100/month, 15x usage
- **Ultra:** $200/month, 50x usage

Paid plans share one weekly usage pool across Grok, the Grok tab on X, Grok Build and Cursor. Usage shows as a percentage in settings. Grok says the official docs list no fixed numerical limits for the $30 tier. Grok Bot is included from Premium up. SpaceX says each tier gives more usage per dollar of its own models than the plan it replaces.

Grok describes the $30 Premium tier as bundling SuperGrok benefits with Cursor and X Premium+, which previously cost about $90 combined. Current SuperGrok subscribers can keep their plan, price and features.

## What changes in Cursor

Cursor says paid plans get twice the coding usage on Grok models compared with the equivalent Cursor plan. The tradeoff: "to make room for more Grok usage," third-party models such as Claude and GPT move to API pricing on the new plans. Per one summary, that billing applies from the $30 tier up, and Claude and Gemini aren't part of the $8 plan. Under the old Cursor Pro plan, some third-party usage was bundled.

Current Cursor subscribers can keep their plan or switch. Cursor says it will keep working on making usage go further with more compute, better inference and more token-efficient models.

One user who tried it reports the following:

- Bring-your-own-key works on Premium and up, not Plus.
- If you bought The X Subscription through X, your paid Cursor plan isn't included until you combine the accounts, even on the same email.
- When he combined his, Cursor refunded the unused part of his old plan two days later. Check your billing so you don't pay twice.

## The OpenAI complication

OpenAI has proposed a transition period ending November 12, 2026 for its models in Cursor, and Cursor may end access sooner. One post claims OpenAI said it can't trust Musk's companies to stick to its terms. That claim comes from a single post, and I'd treat it as unconfirmed. Cursor developers on its forum are worried the pricing undermines its standing as a model-agnostic editor.

Kilo has already moved to capture the fallout, offering its Enterprise plan free for up to a year to teams leaving Cursor. It requires proof of an existing Cursor contract and can be claimed through the end of November.

## Reactions

@iannuttall thinks going all in on Grok makes sense for them, but expects many people to drift back to Claude and OpenAI subscriptions. @aakashgupta compares it to Microsoft bundling Internet Explorer with Windows: a Grok model subsidized by a huge parent, inside an editor where every rival bills at list price. @petergyang calls Grok Bot his favorite 24/7 agent and is giving away one-month codes for the $100 Super tier to new paid subscribers.

My take: for casual users, Plus is probably enough. For developers who rely on Claude or GPT inside Cursor, the real question is whether the Grok usage and extras outweigh paying API rates on top. I wouldn't switch until you've checked what you actually use.

## Questions this post answers

### What happens to third-party AI models in Cursor after it joins The X Subscription?

Third-party models in Cursor move to API pricing on the new X Subscription plans, rather than being included in the shared usage pool. This change was made to free up capacity for increased Grok usage, since paid plans now share one usage pool across Cursor, Grok Build, and other Grok products.

_Developers weighing Cursor pricing changes against alternatives can track these shifts on daily.dev._

### Can I keep my existing Cursor subscription now that Cursor joined The X Subscription?

Yes, current Cursor subscribers can keep their existing plan or switch to The X Subscription. The new combined plan covers X, Grok, Bot, and Cursor under one usage pool, with Premium, Super, and Ultra tiers also including Grok Bot, and coding usage on Grok models set at twice what the equivalent Cursor plan offers.

## Community take

How the wider developer community reacted, aggregated from 1 discussion and 34 comments across x (as of 2026-10-19).

**TL;DR:** Reactions mix jokes about Musk and Altman's rivalry with genuine worry that Cursor is losing its model-agnostic edge, especially around Claude pricing and the November 2026 OpenAI cutoff; some welcome the bundling and upfront cost transparency.

**Sentiment:** 15% positive · 40% mixed · 45% skeptical

**The case for**

- Some like having tools bundled together instead of juggling many separate subscriptions.
- A few appreciate that costs are shown upfront before usage, calling it more transparent than before.

**The pushback**

- Concern that Claude no longer being included in the cheaper plan is a notable downgrade.
- One person described a past bait-and-switch where a gifted Cursor Ultra perk had its 'Other Models' allowance quietly cut from $400 to $100.
- Frustration that CEO rivalries and corporate drama are now directly affecting coding tools people rely on.
- Worry about what happens when OpenAI's access to Cursor ends around November 12, 2026.
- Several frame it as users footing the bill for a dispute between Musk and Altman, losing choice in the process.

**By community**

- x (mixed): A flood of casual, low-signal replies to a promotional thread, with humor about the Musk/Altman rivalry mixed with real complaints about lost model choice and a past pricing bait-and-switch.

**Hottest debate:** Whether bundling everything under one subscription is a convenient win or a loss of model choice and transparency for Cursor users.

**Open questions**

- What will Cursor users do once OpenAI's model access is removed around November 2026?
- Will other 'gifted' usage allowances (like the Other Models cut mentioned) get quietly reduced again?

**Highlights**

> @celineodier The fine print was brutal for Cursor users long before this. I took SuperGrok Heavy only for the gifted Cursor Ultra, then about a month in, Other Models got quietly slashed from $400 to $100. Hand out the gift, then gut it. @cursor_ai
