# Cursor Origin Doesn’t Want to Replace GitHub. (Yet.)

**[The Interesting Bit](https://daily.dev/sources/theinterestingbit)** · [@firethering](https://daily.dev/firethering) · 1 min read · 1 upvotes · 1 comments

## Summary

Cursor's new Origin feature can mirror an existing GitHub repository while GitHub stays the source of truth, letting agents, code, and pull requests live closer together without forcing teams to abandon their current tooling. The piece argues this positions Origin not as an immediate GitHub replacement but as a way for developers to gradually work around GitHub, raising the longer-term question of whether teams will eventually stop needing GitHub as their primary workspace.

## Content

Everyone's calling Cursor Origin a GitHub competitor.

But the irony is that Cursor isn't actually asking developers to leave GitHub.

Origin can mirror an existing GitHub repo while GitHub remains the source of truth, giving Cursor a way to put agents, code and pull requests much closer together without asking teams to rip out the tooling they already depend on.

And that changes how we should look at Origin.

Because if Cursor can get developers to work around GitHub before they ever need to leave it, the question isn't whether Origin can replace GitHub today.

It's what happens if developers slowly stop needing GitHub to be where they work.

> For the devs here using Cursor, Claude Code, or Copilot Workspace: Is your team already feeling the PR review bottleneck, or are your human review processes still keeping up with the generated code volume?
