D-Wave, historically known for quantum annealers, is expanding into gate-based quantum computing. After acquiring Quantum Circuits (a Yale spinout), the company is now publishing a Nature paper demonstrating entanglement of dual-rail qubits — the same technology used by Amazon. Dual-rail qubits use two linked resonators holding a single photon, where the most common error (photon loss) is easily detectable without extra error-correction qubits, making them attractive for practical quantum error correction.
