Databricks is acquiring Panther Labs, a cloud-native cybersecurity startup, in its third security-focused acquisition. The deal aims to build a 'security lakehouse' that uses AI agents to automate threat detection and alert triage, directly targeting legacy SIEM vendors like Splunk and CrowdStrike. Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi argues that as attackers increasingly use AI to exploit vulnerabilities faster than humans can respond, defenders must counter with AI agents. Panther, last valued at $1.4bn, already serves AI-native environments with customers like Anthropic. The acquisition follows Databricks' earlier security buys of Antimatter and SiftD.ai, and complements its own Lakewatch SIEM product launched in March.
