# Day 2/60 — Why TypeScript strict mode should always be enabled

## Summary

Using TypeScript with `strict: false` provides no real type safety — it's essentially JavaScript with extra compilation overhead. Enabling `"strict": true` from the start forces the compiler to catch structural issues early, preventing runtime bugs. If enabling strict mode breaks a project, that signals underlying code quality problems, not a configuration issue.

## Content

Setting up TypeScript with `strict: false` isn't a "compromise" it is just JavaScript with extra steps and zero safety.

If your configuration allows implicit `any` or loose null checks, you are paying the compile-time tax without getting any of the production insurance. You are lying to yourself and your codebase.

True type safety begins when you let the compiler do its job completely unhindered. If turning on strict mode breaks your entire project, that is not a TypeScript configuration problem; it is a structural code problem.

**Welcome to Day 2 of 60 Days of TypeScript.**

- **The Rule:** Set `"strict": true` on day one. No exceptions.

- **The Goal:** Catch structural flaws at the root before they become runtime emergencies.

**Let's debate:** Is there ever a valid reason to turn off strict mode in a production codebase?
