# Day 7/30 — Know the Request Flow

**[Nestjs Developers](https://daily.dev/sources/nestjsdevs)** · [@ezilemdodana](https://daily.dev/ezilemdodana) · 1 min read · 26 upvotes · 8 comments

## Summary

A quick breakdown of the NestJS request lifecycle, covering the order of execution: Middleware → Guards → Interceptors → Pipes → Controller → Service. Each layer has a distinct responsibility — middleware for preprocessing, guards for access control, pipes for validation/transformation, interceptors for before/after behavior, and filters for exception handling. Placing logic in the wrong layer is a common source of bugs.

## Content

Many NestJS bugs are caused by putting correct code in the wrong layer.

A simplified flow is:

`Middleware → Guards → Interceptors → Pipes → Controller → Service`

Use the layers intentionally:

- Middleware: request preprocessing
- Guards: access decisions
- Pipes: validation and transformation
- Interceptors: before-and-after behaviour
- Filters: exception handling

If every concern lives in the controller, the framework cannot help you.

Which NestJS lifecycle component confused you most?

> One thing I've learned is that understanding the request flow is only half the battle. The other half is having a consistent project structure so every developer knows where middleware, guards, pipes, and services belong. Without that consistency, even a well-designed framework can become difficult to maintain.

> Ans : To give those responsibilities a clear place in the request lifecycle.
