AGEs like CML are implicated in aging-related conditions, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and tissue degradation. The enzyme was developed using a genetic selection approach in modified E. coli. In ex vivo tests on elderly donor tissue, CMLase reduced CML levels by 55% in skin and 75% in arterial tissue.
