Debian's next release just made it near-impossible for tampered binaries to sneak onto your PC

Debian 14 will be the first Linux distribution to mandate reproducible builds for all new packages, significantly raising the bar against supply-chain binary injection attacks. Reproducible builds ensure that compiling the same source code always produces bit-for-bit identical binaries, making it easy to detect tampering. Debian has already started blocking new non-reproducible packages and those that regress in reproducibility. The policy is expected to become official with Debian 14's release in 2027.
