# Dell Latitude 7320 2-in-1 Seeing Web Camera Support On Linux After Five Years

**[Phoronix](https://daily.dev/sources/phoronix)** · 4 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

After five years without Linux webcam support, the Dell Latitude 7320 2-in-1 is finally getting its front-facing 5MP camera working on Linux. Independent developer Sahan Nissanka discovered that the OVTI5678 sensor is actually an OV5675 variant, for which a Linux driver already exists. Three kernel patches are proposed: board data for the TPS68470 PMIC, adding the OVTI5678 ID to the ov5675 driver, and an ipu-bridge entry. A known caveat is that the sensor uses a 4x4 RGB-IR color filter array, meaning color output will be imperfect until V4L2 gains RGB-IR media bus code support. The rear-facing camera remains unsupported pending GPIO assignment resolution.

## Questions this post answers

### Why doesn't the webcam work on my Dell Latitude 7320 under Linux?

The Dell Latitude 7320's front camera (OVTI5678) had no Linux driver claiming its ACPI ID for years. The fix involves three kernel patches: TPS68470 PMIC board data so sensors are enumerated, adding the OVTI5678 ID to the existing ov5675 driver (the chip reports ID 0x005675), and an ipu-bridge entry. Color output will be imperfect because the sensor uses a 4x4 RGB-IR filter array not yet described in the V4L2 ABI.

### What is the Intel IPU6 webcam issue on Linux and has it been resolved?

Intel IPU6 support on Linux was problematic enough that kernel maintainer Greg KH recommended avoiding IPU6 laptops in 2022. The core IPU6 stack has since been resolved, but individual sensors like the OVTI5678 in the Dell Latitude 7320 required additional per-device patches. The Latitude 7320 fix reuses the ov5675 driver after discovering the sensor reports chip ID 0x005675 and shares compatible CSI-2 and clock parameters.
