The change was made possible by a new `nix.enable` option added to nix-darwin, which lets users opt out of nix-darwin managing Nix itself. Setting `nix.enable = false` prevents nix-darwin from controlling the Nix installation, the nix-daemon, and `/etc/nix/nix.conf`, allowing Determinate to take over those responsibilities.
