Dev who gave HashiCorp its name returns with a faster terminal multiplexer

Mitchell Hashimoto, co-founder of HashiCorp and creator of the Ghostty terminal emulator, has launched a new startup called Superlogical. The company is building a server-side terminal multiplexer designed to be faster than existing tools like tmux, Zellij, and GNU Screen. Traditional multiplexers suffer from slow performance due to constant duplication of input and local/remote state reconciliation. Superlogical's approach uses libghostty as its foundation, keeping persistent session state on the server while delegating rendering and scrolling to a smart local client — similar to an SSH session but with richer capabilities. The company positions the terminal as a missing primitive for stateful work sessions that span machines, users, and AI agents, with speculation that it could evolve into an AI-native agentic operating system layer.
