Cognition's Devin AI software engineer can now run in Modal Sandboxes via Devin Outposts, a new feature that lets Devin's execution move into user-controlled environments while its reasoning stays in Cognition's cloud. Modal is a launch partner with an open-source integration called modal-devin. This enables GPU-backed sessions, custom Docker images, workspace snapshotting, fast cold-starts, and per-team isolated outposts. Setup requires a single command (uvx modal-devin init), which generates an orchestrator and worker function. The integration is live in alpha as of July 21, 2026.
