## Summary

Stack Overflow's recent partnership with OpenAI raises questions about their motivation and ability to compete in the AI-driven landscape.

## Content

“If you can’t beat them, join them” seems to be the reaction to [Stack Overflow’s recent announcement of its partnership with OpenAI](https://stackoverflow.co/company/press/archive/openai-partnership). This collaboration, which merges Stack Overflow’s extensive database of developer knowledge with OpenAI’s AI models, might look like a smart move. But is it possible that Stack Overflow is just trying to cut its losses, having realized it can't compete in the AI-driven landscape?

> Stack Overflow might be less relevant since AI came but it's far from dead, especially since AI knowledge has a cutoff so AI can't answer on questions related to any technology that is newer than it's dataset. We still need an active community to answer questions on the latest tech stuff, and forums like stack overflow have a key role to play on this.

> Every time I have a question when programming, I go to Google first. 90% of the times the answer is available there, in most cases on StackOverflow. Only when I want something extremely specific, I ask an LLM for it, be it ChatGPT or Claude, which happens very rarely.

> i often go to chatgpt at first to see if I can get a quick easy answer but about 40% of the time it is too complicated for the ai still and I need to resort back to asking people on discord or stackoverflow. so I would say it is far from its end of its lifecycle.

> I don't understand why people are scared of AI ? Perhaps job loss. why don't you remember AI needs updated dataset to keep up with market pace. Community ain't going anywhere as long as AI is concerned it's just going make things more efficient by time wise. As a user you'll have more time working on a algorithm rather than searching for solution. But yeah with that one thing's going to effect most of us is our knowledge base will be concised to the problem only.

> Despite the rise of AI, Stack Overflow continues to be relevant. While AI has its limitations in answering questions about newer technologies, an active community like Stack Overflow remains essential for providing answers on the latest tech developments.
