Messages can be started from a profile, a hover card, or directly from a comment (which attaches context). Non-followers send a message request that's screened for spam and can be accepted, declined, or reported, while followed users can message instantly. The feature includes emoji reactions, image/GIF sharing, post previews, message editing, typing indicators, unread notifications, and a setting to disable DMs entirely or block specific users. ## Content Some of the best conversations on daily.dev start in the comments and then want somewhere quieter to go. A follow-up question, a "how did you set that up?", a "we should build this together". Now you can take it one-to-one. ## Here's what's new - **Messages, right in daily.dev**: Your inbox lives at [https://daily.dev/messages](https://daily.dev/messages). Open it from the **Messages** icon in the header or the sidebar. - **Message anyone from where you meet them**: Hit **Message** on a profile, the mail icon on a user's hover card, or **Message ** in a comment's menu. Starting from a comment attaches it to the chat, so they know exactly what you're talking about. - **Message requests**: If someone doesn't follow you yet, they send a short intro note first. You get a request in the **Requests** tab and decide: **Accept**, **Decline**, or **Report**. - **People you follow skip the line**: When you follow someone, they can message you right away. No request needed. - **Spam protection built in**: Every message request is screened for spam before it reaches you, and there's a cap on how many new conversations anyone can start each day. Spammers get filtered out, so your requests stay for real conversations. - **Chat the way you'd expect**: React with emojis, drop images and GIFs, and share daily.dev posts that show up as a proper preview instead of a boring link. - **Edit your messages**: Typo? Hover your message and hit **Edit**, or press the up arrow in an empty composer to fix your last one. - **Typing indicator**: See when the other person is writing back. - **Never miss a reply**: An unread dot shows up when something's waiting, and you'll get a push notification for new messages when you're away. ## You're in control Not in the mood for DMs? Head to **Settings →** [**Notifications**](https://daily.dev/settings/notifications) and turn off **Allow direct messages**. You can switch it back on any time. Blocking someone also closes the conversation on both sides. ## How to try it Found a comment that made you think? Open its menu, hit **Message**, and pick up the conversation with a real question or idea.
