# Do your GitHub Actions workflow runs all look the same?

## Summary

GitHub Actions workflow runs can become hard to scan when a repository has many deployments, pull requests, scheduled jobs, and manual runs. The `run-name` field in GitHub Actions YAML allows teams to add dynamic, descriptive names to workflow runs — including branch names, environments, and the triggering user — making CI/CD history much easier to navigate at a glance.

## Content

If a repository has multiple deployments, pull requests, scheduled jobs, and manual runs, the Actions history can quickly become difficult to scan.

Sometimes the hardest part isn't finding a failed workflow. It's figuring out **which run was for what**.

I'm curious how other DevOps teams handle this.

- Do you customize your GitHub Actions run names?
- What information do you find most useful when looking through workflow history?
- Do you use any other tricks to make CI/CD runs easier to identify?

I came across a useful example of using GitHub Actions' `run-name` field to make workflow runs more descriptive, including dynamic values such as branches, environments, and the person who triggered the workflow.

Have you been using `run-name` already, or do your workflow runs still use the default names?
