# DOJ Disrupts Botnets, But DDoS Threats Remain, Security Pros Warn

**[Security Boulevard](https://daily.dev/sources/securityboulevard)** · 5 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

The U.S. DOJ, alongside Canadian and German law enforcement and private partners including AWS, Cloudflare, and Okta, dismantled the command-and-control infrastructure of four IoT botnets — Aisuru, KimWolf, JackSkid, and Mossad — comprising over 3 million devices capable of 30+ Tbps DDoS attacks. Security experts caution this is a disruption, not a victory: the compromised IoT devices remain vulnerable, botnet operators are likely to rebuild under new identities, and AI has simplified rescaling. Cloudflare data shows DDoS attacks grew 40% year-over-year in Q3 2025. Experts recommend cloud-scale DDoS protection, network segmentation, real-time behavioral detection, and treating IoT devices with the same update discipline as smartphones.
