Dropbeat is a new GNOME Shell panel extension for controlling MPRIS-compatible Linux media players. It uses ImageMagick to generate blurred album art backgrounds for its panel card and a fullscreen view. Key features include a configurable global shortcut to toggle the media card and a fullscreen mode with album art, track title, and artist name. Limitations include a noticeable delay when switching tracks, no way to bring the media player to the foreground, and no suppression of the stock GNOME Shell media controller. It works with GNOME 48–50 and is available on the GNOME Extensions website or via Extensions Manager.
