dtSearch has released a version 2026.01 beta that eliminates the need for a separate PDF highlighter plug-in. The new approach adds search hit highlights directly as annotations to PDF files, making PDFs behave like other supported file types (Office documents, emails) with multicolor highlighting for concurrent users. The update integrates with the open-source pdf.js viewer used by Firefox and other browsers, enabling hit navigation and highlighting in both desktop and web-based products. SDKs for C++, Java, and .NET are supported across Windows, Linux, and macOS. dtSearch intentionally excludes AI features due to customer confidentiality concerns, though future optional AI integration is being considered.
