MiniMax H3 Open Weights Release Comes With Major Limits
MiniMax released the Base weights for its H3 audio-video generation model on August 3, with ComfyUI adding native support the same day via version 0.30.0. The optimized ComfyUI artifact package reduces the download to ~42.5 GB through pruning, Int8 quantization, and dynamic memory offloading, enabling local runs on GPUs like an RTX 3060 — though real-world reports show system RAM (64 GB+) is critical. Key limitations: only the Base layer is public (Context-IR and Regenerate-2K are not released), the H3 Community License explicitly excludes the US, EU, UK, and South Korea, and commercial use above $20M annual revenue requires separate authorization. Developers in permitted regions can run meaningful local workflows, but the full hosted 2K pipeline cannot be reproduced from the published weights alone.
