# Postgres 19 Slipped to November: Every Pulled Feature and Why

## Summary

PostgreSQL 19's general availability has slipped from October to 19 November 2026, with a second release candidate on 12 November. Thirteen release-note items covering 11 features were pulled after beta 1, including SQL/PGQ graph queries, UPDATE/DELETE FOR PORTION OF, online checksums, and ALTER TABLE MERGE/SPLIT PARTITION. Peter Eisentraut, who committed several reverted features, attributes the reverts to a mix of causes: unresolved design problems, a long tail of edge-case bugs surfaced faster by LLM-assisted code review, senior reviewers tied up with months of security work (dubbed the 'Vulnpocalypse'), and the difficulty of testing every feature combination in Postgres. Only 23 of 937 post-beta-1 commits explicitly credit AI assistance, a floor rather than a true count. The piece also details a newly discovered limitation in REPACK CONCURRENTLY (one process cluster-wide) and provides a script to detect beta-era code using the removed syntax ahead of upgrading.

> Better to delay a month and launch a stable release than push buggy features to production.

> Were SQL/PGQ graph queries pulled due to syntax edge-cases, or actual performance bottlenecks during execution plan generation?

> do you find the delay ever forces you to re‑architect once the stable release lands? how do you balance that against missing early feedback from the beta
