# Eisentraut: The reverts will continue until morale improves

## Summary

PostgreSQL core team member Peter Eisentraut reflects on why an unusually high number of features have been reverted from the upcoming PostgreSQL 19 release during its beta period. He attributes much of this to LLM-assisted code review surfacing latent defects, including architectural issues and a long tail of edge-case bugs, far faster than traditional review would have historically. Since fixing dozens of defect reports under beta time constraints wasn't feasible, many affected features—mostly written before LLM-assisted review was effective—were pulled instead. He clarifies this is not a result of 'vibe coding,' since the code predates that practice, but rather a retroactively raised quality bar now being applied to older contributions.

## Questions this post answers

### Why were so many features reverted from PostgreSQL 19 during its beta period?

PostgreSQL core team member Peter Eisentraut attributes the reverts to LLM-assisted code review surfacing defects much faster than traditional methods, including architectural flaws and dozens of edge-case bugs in older code. Since fixing around forty defect reports with a fixed per-issue overhead wasn't feasible during beta, maintainers pulled the affected features instead. He notes this is unrelated to vibe coding, since the code predates that practice.
