# Electronic Nose Sniffs Out Mold

**[Hackaday](https://daily.dev/sources/hackaday)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

German researchers developed an electronic nose using UV-activated tin oxide nanowires to detect common indoor mold species. The sensor changes resistance when exposed to specific chemicals from mold. The system uses sophisticated data processing techniques including multiple trained models, regression algorithms, and majority voting to classify sensor readings and distinguish between different mold types. While the hardware requires advanced lab equipment to fabricate, the sensor fusion and data classification techniques are applicable to many other sensor projects.
