Endurance Energy, founded by SpaceX alumni Andrew Redd, has raised a $54M Series A led by Founders Fund to develop offshore geothermal power plants. The startup aims to tap geothermal energy along the ocean floor near tectonic plate boundaries — particularly around the Pacific Ring of Fire — where hot magma is close to the surface. Unlike land-based geothermal startups like Fervo or Sage Geosystems, Endurance targets undersea resources that have never been exploited. Redd estimates up to 6 terawatts of developable potential exists in the Ring of Fire region alone, enough to power major coastal cities. The company plans to use robotics and draw on oil and gas industry expertise to overcome the challenges of deep-sea operations.
