Roberto Alsina built ESP-Osito, a lightweight operating system for the ESP32-based Cheap Yellow Display (CYD). Inspired by the Palm Pilot, it features instant app loading from SD card, state saving, and a simple C API for app development. The app store includes a serial terminal, text editor, file explorer, calculator, clock with weather, Markdown reader, LLM chat client, and Snake. Optional BlackBerry keyboard support adds to the retro feel. The OS and apps are MIT-licensed on GitHub, and the author is seeking collaborators.
