The European Commission has officially launched three digital skills academies covering Quantum, Generative AI, and Virtual Worlds, representing one of Europe's largest coordinated workforce development efforts. The European Quantum Academy (EQA) launches with €19.8 million in funding, 70 partner institutions, and over 100 affiliated organizations, targeting at least 600 trained quantum professionals and 5,000 learners through six regional hubs. The initiative aims to distribute quantum talent development across all EU member states, not just established tech hubs. Alongside the academy launches, the European Digital Skills Awards 2026 recognized five initiatives advancing AI literacy, digital inclusion, cybersecurity education for children, women in ICT, and research data management.
