# Every developer I know uses AI coding tools daily, but almost none of them trust the code

**[XDA Developers](https://daily.dev/sources/xda-developers)** · 7 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Despite widespread daily adoption of AI coding tools like Claude Code and Cursor, most developers don't fully trust the output. Stack Overflow's 2025 survey found 46% of developers distrust AI tool accuracy versus only 33% who trust it, with experienced developers showing the highest distrust rates. AI tools excel at boilerplate, documentation, and glue code, but core logic and security-critical code remain mostly human-written. A METR study found experienced developers actually took 19% longer when using AI tools, partly due to intensive review overhead. The real danger is plausible-but-wrong code — output that compiles and looks correct but contains subtle errors or security flaws. Vibe coding amplifies this risk for non-programmers who lack the expertise to review what they ship. The emerging consensus is to treat AI as an accelerator for work you can already judge, while keeping human accountability for anything reaching production.
