# Everything we announced at the Google for Games Developer Summit this year

## Summary

Google's Firebase team recapped announcements from the digital Google for Games Developer Summit, since the in-person GDC event was cancelled. Cloud Firestore, Firebase's NoSQL cloud database, is now available in open alpha for C++ and Unity developers, offering multi-region reliability, atomic transactions, and realtime listeners for multiplayer game state and content syncing. The Firebase Unity SDKs now support the Unity Package Manager via a renamed open-source tool (formerly Play Services Resolver, now External Dependency Manager for Unity). Google Analytics also rolled out new game-focused dashboards covering acquisition, retention, monetization, and DAU/MAU trends, plus a refreshed Firebase for Games product page.

## Questions this post answers

### Is Cloud Firestore available for Unity and C++ game development yet?

Yes, Cloud Firestore SDKs for C++ and Unity are available as an open alpha release, meaning anyone can download and use them. The alpha has rough edges: the Unity SDK lacks some advanced querying features, and the API is likely to change in coming months, requiring method name updates later. It supports multi-region reliability, atomic transactions, offline support, and realtime listeners.

_Track Cloud Firestore's Unity SDK maturity on daily.dev before committing your game's save data layer to it._

### What is the External Dependency Manager for Unity (EDM4U)?

EDM4U is the renamed version of the Play Services Resolver, an open-source tool that automates dependency management for Firebase Unity SDKs. It works with the Unity Package Manager so Firebase stays easier to update and its plugin no longer needs to be mixed in with a game's other assets. Using it is optional; developers can still manage libraries manually.
